The best method is to write them down in descending order like this:
1) Acme Corporation
2) Siemens Nokia Networks
3) Microsoft
4) Tata Systems
5) Twitter Security Inc.
6) Google.org
7) intentionally left blank
8) General Motors
9) Lehman Brothers
Ulf is German. So his method is an internationally used method. Unless you too are German that is. But then I'd probably use the same method and I'm not German. So there we go, we have an internationally used method to rank companies.
I propose one with decimal points so you can rearrange as needed without shifting positions in the ranks
1.0 ABC Company
2.0 Microsoft
3.0 Microhard
Or you can have one where you rank them with stars like in the army. A level 3 company will have 3 HUGE golden stars badged on the company building, visible for all to see.
How about dropping all said companies in a bowl of water and seeing how well they float?
Oh wait, that's a internationally recognised method to test how old eggs are. Ignore me (unless you are planning to eat an egg any time soon).

Aruna, This is very broad question. What are your criteria to select a particular company?
And do you think this question belong to MD forum?

If you are looking for software and services companies, they are all the same, with regard to work they do.
If i were to consider such a company as a future employer, i'll go to their campus for interview on a Friday, and check out how "COLORFUL" the environment is, apart from the salary they offer. I may also sample coffee (and may be food) served in the cafeteria. Need some motivation to go to office everyday, right?
