I think by more and more practicing you can only polish your skills. You
can't become intelligent by solving the toughest exam problems. For eg, almost
everybody can solve the CAT examples at home by having sufficient time but are you able to do it in stipulated time? That's where your IQ comes into picture.

Anybody agree?

I think there are many factors.Solving artihmatic fast in stipulated time does not necessarily mean high IQ.Can people with higher IQ clear the exam without much practice?Almost all those who pass the exam ,you will find slog for 1/2 years before getting admitted.
UPSC exams such as Foreign service or IAS require much more ability than slogging IMO.

Arjun,

I have never said arithmetic,i said aptitude.Aptitude isn't bound to any field. And ofcourse,i agree practice makes men perfect.
BTW, mine IQ is 120+ . It falls in average category.

I would add to this a bit and say there is also a definitive prejudice against right brained people particularly in India. People who are artistic or not very mathematically inclined would find it extremely hard to adjust.
