If you're budget-conscious, you should be just fine with a less expensive MacBook.
I just thought the same thing. I have a MacBook 13", which I got in January, the newer current MacBook 13" are now Pros, and definitely cost less than an Air. I think though the new air is cheaper than the 15" Macbook Pro.
Anyway, one of the guys at my work got an Air and is doing development. It doesn't matter which Mac you get, they are all great for development.
