Previously when I joined Javaranch, my ranking was "GreenHorn". Now, I see my ranking has changed to "Ranch Hand".
I am curious about these rankings. Does these terms have any significance?

'Meaningless Driveler', for those who post mainly in MD :-)

Fortunately there are very few people who post annoying posts and would merit a title like "Varmint". I think it is possible to have a nicer title if you cross Paul's palm with $30 or similar.

Good point - I should have been more explicit.
I was referring to this part of the FAQ. All new titles under discussion would be based on post count. For manual titles, we already have a good system.
Why don't you have more automatic titles when a person posts 100 times or 1,000 times?
Now that we've changed to NewForumSoftware, we might look at adding some more automatic titles.

Moderators,
I guess , its time to add few more ranks to make the enthusiastic members to be more active.
Any ideas on new rank names?
One option is to sacrifice some of the suggestions on the donation page -- or even titles like rancher and bartender.
For example... we can have a four tier system of greenhorn, ranch hand, rancher, and bartender. Maybe have the titles change at say 30, 150, and 1000 posts.
As for the current ranchers, the new title could be something cool like sharpshooter.
As for the current bartenders, the new title could be something more appropriate, like deputy.
Of course, if someone already paid $100 for sharpshooter or deputy....

Hmmm.... or how about deputy for the current ranchers? As they are helpful, and deputies are helpful.
And as for bartender and sheriffs, they can now switched to sheriff and marshal, as they are both moderators (ie. the law), but one has more range (federal instead of local) than the other.
Balaji Loganathan has 'Deputy'. (he's a moderator - so he may be open to changing it.) Nobody has sharpshooter. I think there may be some implications of changing the existing moderator titles - starting a thread in Moderators Only to discuss.

In keeping with the "saloon" theme, how about "Regular" for one of the more-than-a-ranchhand ranks?
