Genpets are a mixed media installation art piece by artist Adam Brandejs. It is considered a hoax of exposure.

I still prefer my bonsai kitten.

Okay, now you've piqued my interest in this artist. His website has an interesting "Genpets - Why" page, and an even more interesting "Genpets - How" page.

The 19 originals are for sale at $800 to $1,200 each. For original art, that's pretty reasonable -- especially if this guy turns out to be the next Jonathan Borofsky or Jeff Koons.

(Remember, I've got a mid-life crisis coming up. And for someone who started college as an art major and is having mid-life regrets...)

A year later, not many of these seem to have sold.
