I like the end where we see the kid who has just finished an intensive 6 week course in VB. Some managers think he would be qualified now as a coder. Actually, some think all technologies and skills are like a 3 day course in Excel or Word... Data Modeling, Database admin, programming, Powerpoint, Outlook,...its all the same, its all just techie stuff.

Very true! Managers think *coding* is a factory process; anybody can be replaced anytime with anybody. How foolish!
The career path preferred (at-least) what I have seen in India is Coder --> Programmer --> Developer --> Module lead -->PL --> Manager Fresher -> 1 year exp --> 1-3 yr exp -> 3+ years ----> 5+ --> 7+ years want to lead and manage team
So these new managers rule the same way as they were ruled and expect a baby in 1 month with 9 resources [ September 08, 2008: Message edited by: Rajah Nagur ]
