Modern technology (about to be forgotten)

So I flipped my Clash calendar to the September page, and noticed Joe Strummer looking at a small, rectangular object in his hand. I couldn't figure out what it was. The pic was from around 1977, so it wasn't a cell phone or miniature television. Finally, I remembered that Joe was famous for carrying a transistor radio with him at all times. Duh.

Was it a short wave transistor radio?
