This week's book giveaway is in the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. We're giving away four copies of Refactoring for Software Design Smells: Managing Technical Debt and have Girish Suryanarayana, Ganesh Samarthyam & Tushar Sharma on-line! See this thread for details.
You are driving in heavy traffic in the right-most lane. Though the traffic is heavy, you are driving at 65mph. There is about three seconds distance between you and the van in front. The van swirves suddenly, leaving the highway lane and enters the emergency lane. You see the person has avoided road debris. It is a medium sized faded blue dufflebag. There is a car behind (tailgating) and a car in the lane to your left.
Do you try to follow the van risking the possibility of hitting the dufflebag with your tires?
Do you slam on the brakes?
Do you strike the object at current speed?
What do you do?
How about if you knew that hitting it would cause $250.00 in damages?
