You could start by telling the truth to yourself, surely you don't always do stupid things. When you change the word to "sometimes" instead, you might even be open to the answer you're looking for, what's special about those times. Are you hasty to achieve some or other goal, neglecting the little steps needed to get there? At those times, are you emotional? That sort of thing.
