As previously announced here, our primary data center -- the one hosting the 14,000 VAX-11/780s on which our site runs -- will be moving from its present location near the South Pole to a new offshore platform near the ruins of Atlantis, to take advantage of a new energy source of uncertain origin involving a hitherto unknown isotope of Tungsten.
We now know that a sufficient number of penguins to effect the transport has been corralled, and our people are currrently hitching them to the enormous amphibious sled that will carry our installation across the frozen tundra and halfway through the Atlantic Ocean. This process is expected to take approximately twelve hours, as many of the penguins are not domesticated and are hostile to the idea.
While the sled is in motion -- a period of somewhere, approximately, maybe up to two hours, starting sometime Friday night, Ranch time -- JavaRanch will be offline. We're trying to arrange to have Celene Dion stand here and sing for y'all during the transition to keep you entertained, but even though she's Canadian, she apparently isn't fond of performing in sub-zero weather. Maybe you can just sit and watch the funny penguins.

hmmm... sounds like it's moving just a bit closer to the pie shop
Global warming would mean melting of all the glaciers and ice caps and what not, which would effectively mean more water to sail and hide. This would logically mean an increase in the number of pirates, just like the number of lions in a wild life reserve would increase, with the increase in habitat.
Ernest,
Hope you didn't remove anything funny in the original. Quoting it now so nothing happens to the penguins. Hope they like each other or we have a picture of what might happen.

Joking aside, the server move has now been completed. We're running on our own server again, in a new location. If anybody sees anything... suspicious, do let us know!
