Can someone please explain the instructions given once the mmmysql.zip file has been downloaded? I went to the link, was informed the name of the file had been changed, and was directed to another site. From that site I downloaded a zip file (not a jar file) I have not unzipped this file because the instructions say not to unjar the file, because it will be MASHED into my classpath (ack!!!) I don't know how to mash a file into my classpath. Then it says something about downloading documentation and unzipping a file so I can use the inner file.......... I am confused as to how to proceed. Please translate!

Wow! They've revamped their whole website!
You downloaded "mysql-3.23.52-win.zip" and "mysql-connector-java-2.0.14.zip"
Follow the directions for the "beta" version and unzip the file. Don't unjar the inner jar file ("mysql-connector-java-2.0.14-bin.jar").

Regarding mashing stuff into your classpath, you mashed JavaRanchCommon.jar into your classpath for assignment OOP-1.

(You might want to re-read that assignment regarding zip/jar files and mashing stuff into your classpath)

I'll have to update the page ASAP. Not tonight, though.

Should I place the mysql-connector-java files in C:\mysql and then unzip the outer file, or can I unzip it in the folder where I place all of my downloads before I open them? I'm a little inexperienced with this kind of stuff!
I can't find my post from before where you explained how to change my classpath. I know it has something to do with the autoexec.bat file, but I can't remember how to access that file and the steps needed to alter my classpath. Could you give me a little refresher on that?

set classpath=%classpath%;C:\jdk1.2.1\mm.mysql-2.0.14\mm.mysql-2.0.14-bin.jar
This is how I set my classpath where the outer jar is under c:\jdk1.2.1.
try substituting your dir and file names accordingly and see if this works. hth.

Unzip it in your C:\ drive. It will create its own (mysql...) directory as it unzips. I'm not home right now so I can't look to see the exact directory name it will create, but after you unzip it, look for something that has some relationship to mysql and find the mmmysqlxxx.jar file. Then you know you've found the right directory to put into your classpath.

I figured out how to set my classpath, and I did, but java can't find the Driver.class file inside of mysql-connector-java-2.0.14. Anybody have any suggestions?

Did you connect to the jdbc driver by giving the command "c:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt --standalone" at the dos prompt ?

Yeah, I was doing everything right except the classpath wasn't correct. (It was an inner-outer thing)Marilyn pointed me in the right direction and now everything works like it's supposed to. Thanks for all your help!
