Garbage collection problem

My question is that after reaching //dostuff
how many objects are eligible for garbage collection

This question is from K&B chap-3
Can somebody explain how this all is happening in detail, as i am a bit confused about garbage
collection, I read a lot but still i am not happy with my knowledge about it
