I used to admire the captains of industry, the movers and shakers.
Now, I want to be just like Wally:

This is the whole key to the issue of happiness: properly calibrating your expectations and goals with your reality. You are happy when you think things are as they should be and expect them to be, and unhappy otherwise. Change how you think things should be or ought to be, and change your life.


Most self-help books and Oprah wanna bees say to set your sights and goals high, that anything is possible. Well, as being part of a profession firmly rooted in reality, we know that is hooey. We need a movement to fight that pernicious concept that has led to widespread frustration, depression, suicide and violence.

Wally is the hero of that new movement, as brilliant and original in his own way as the other great spiritual leaders of our past. A day begins Java Ranchers; we have pulses, let us rejoice.
