If you're specifically preparing for the SCJP exam, then a good book such as K&B will be really useful - it explains everything you need to know step by step.

For more about SCJP, including a list of mock exams (some of which are online), see our SCJP FAQ.

The K&B book is a good one. If you're unfamiliar with java though you'll probably want to read a beginning java book before jumping into the K&B book. Also taking some code snippets out of books and slightly changing them and observing the behavior of those changes would be good practice too.
