Hi All,

I need to create a web portal for some one as a part time job, but since I have only been working on what has been given to me and am still a junior developer I do not know how and on what basis to estimate my effort and hence my price for the project.
The project is to create a clone of another site that already exists and has pay pal and shopping cart features.
If some one can point me to a way of doing that it would be very helpful.

Regards

Collin,
A good place to start is to do some analysis. Can you make a list of the functions in the existing website that you will need to implement? Once you have that, try to go into detail on a couple of them as to what tasks they will consist of. With this concrete list, you could ask another programmer (or here) for a sanity check on how long it should take.

Create a WBS, then estimate base on your history projects/work.

How is this helpful? Please do not use abbreviations. I have no idea what a WBS is. And please put a bit more thought into your answers. Take some notes from Jeanne's post if you are unclear on what I mean.

If Collin knew how to estimate his work, why would he be asking how? So how does telling him to estimate his work answer his question?

WBS stands for Work breakdown structure. Sorry I'm too busy now. I will be back soon to tell you more.
