Hi All,

I'm planning to take SCWCD 5. I had taken SCJP 1.4 few years back and so am not sure how the exam has evolved over the years. I would appreciate any tips and suggestions in preparing and clearing the exam. What is the minimum time of study required for high marks ?

Cheers,
Babu

Because I work full-time I took 3 months to prepare for the exam. See my blog entry here:

Thanks for the reply Bruce. It helps to know the effort involved.

Also what is the value add this certification carries in terms of getting the job done better (if you are a web developer) or getting a better job?

Thanks,
Babu

Studying for this extensive exam should greatly improve your skills and introduce you to new techniques. For example, I'd hadn't really heard about Tag files before studying for this exam, but now I used them in my web applications.

I believe also that having these certifications helps show your current employer that your serious about your craft. For future employers, a certification will at least get your resume more attention and perhaps lead to an interview.
