Servlets support the Observable concept with event listeners specifically designed for the servlet environment.

I was also thinking on similar lines. I am not sure why the developers have used it in the code available with me.

I studied 4-5 years back. In which version of servlets api listeners were introduced ?

The docs say that most of the listener classes are since Servlet 2.3 or 2.4. Actually I've never heard of Observable Servlets before (must be old enough eh )...
