I've got the book " A programmers guide to JAva SCJP" for Java6 and third edition. Do anyone know what areas it does NOT cover (if any) for the exam?

Although I've not read that book (khalid mughal one for SCJP6) but I don't think it would leave any topics that's on the exam. I had the 1.4 book by Khalid Mughal and it covered everything needed for the 1.4 SCJP exam...

I read only three chapters from it; I am pretty sure that it covers more than just the exam objectives.

Well i read the book and it doesn't leave anything out. It covers more than what is needed for the SCJP6 certification. I found the chapters for generics, Strings and COllections to be detailed and helpful. Also enums is covered in detail and many things about them not needed for the exam are there. Well on a whole its a good book.

Can you clearly say what do you mean by externalize interface?

Hi Nitish.

This excerpt is based on the Whizlabs quick revision notes. I also did take the diagnostic test, and it appeared there. I

"For complete and explicit control of the serialization process, a class must implement the Externalizable interface. For Externalizable objects, only the identity of the object's class is automatically saved by the stream. The class is responsible for writing and reading its contents, and it must coordinate with its superclasses to do so. The Externalizable interface extends the Serializable interface. "

Thanks Jesper, I did not realise there was a book review of it. However, there is no review of the latest version, the third edition which cover JSE6.

Well you don't need this interface for the exam. In the exam, only Serializable interface is there. You can read and write the primitives using the custom serialization process and using the ObjectOutputStream and ObjectInputStream as they extend from DataInput and DataOutput classes.
