in other words, how much would it take from a JEE developer to Begin Ruby.

Sorry I'm a little late but hello - thanks for the welcome!
How do you see "Beginning Ruby" from a Java EE developer perspective?
in other words, how much would it take from a JEE developer to Begin Ruby.
I should note I'm not a Java developer, though I am vaguely familiar with it. In my experience, you should find it very easy to learn Ruby as Ruby takes away a lot of the formalities you're used to with Java. It's a lot quicker to define things and just get going. This can come at the expense of project organization further down the line, of course, but in terms of getting started with the language, you should find it particularly easy. You're already used to object orientation and a lot of the syntax is very similar.

Hi Peter,
I'm a newbie in Ruby, but I've got a strategic question. Do we really need another programming language, maybe it would be better to improve Java ?
You wrote in the previous response that some things can be done faster in Ruby, but I don't see benefits. There are many other programming languages that can do some things easier than Java. I would like to learn what distinguish Ruby from them ?

I'm a java developer, and have had a class on ROR but would love to learn more just about Ruby and what it provides. I'd love to have a copy of your book to expand my Ruby knowledge.
