Gzipping Servlet Response w/ Struts

While using raw servlets to generate pages I have in the past gzipped the servlet output to the browser. Is there a way to do this within the struts framework?

Thats a problem for us because we are bound to Websphere 4.0.3 which is servlet 2.2 compatible
