Need Help to choose the techonolgy for desktopclient

Hello Everyone,
I am very new to the front end technologies.
I am doing my MS project My project is about cloud-based backup.
We are using AmazonsS3 services to store our files.
As a part of our final project we have to develop desktop client.
I am looking for the some latest technology which can be used for our desktop application which should support the MultiThreading.
I dont want to go for swing and adobe air because adobe air does not support mutli threading.

I really appreciate if some one can suggest me the appropiate techonolgy.
