Hi all,
Without sounding like a nuisance, it is quite a challenge/expensive for people like me to pay (in US dollars) for the exam (from my own pocket) and buy (in US dollars) study material. Can someone advise me as to where I can get free study material that is sufficient to prepare for this exam? Your suggestions will be highly appreciated, I will be writing the exam soon.

I have a few mock exams on my website.
The key is to go to the Sun site and print out the exam objectives. Search through the Sun tutorials on each topic, and you should find plenty of free information. It won't be organized like it would be in the SCJA Certification Guide, but it's a good start!
