Piped Streams ( pipedinputstream and pipedoutputstream )

Could someone tell me why the pipe seems to close just after one call to write ?
I am using this along with Apache Commons exec, if you are interested in knowing why.

PipedOutputStream ps = new PipedOutputStream();
PipedInputStream is = new PipedInputStream(ps);
BufferedWriter os = new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(ps));
String s = "hi there \n hello\n";
[1..10].each{
println it
os.write(s);
}
os.close();
println is.getText();

This is the Java I/O forum. It may be a good idea to ask this question in another forum -- maybe a forum for groovy?
