Tina,
I think the chapters on the JavaFX language and the introduction to the Stage and Scene classes are the best you'll find in any JavaFX book. Jim and Weiqi did an excellent job on those.
Chapter 1 is a little bit of a dive into the deep end, so if you are completely new to the language and platform, don't worry if you don't understand every detail. All will become clear in chapters 2 through 5.
