-. I deployed an application (.war file) to JBoss.
-. I deployed it by copying the war file into the folder: jboss-5.1.0.GA\server\default\deploy
-. The application failed to deploy correct due to some exception in it.
-. I now want to redeploy a fixed version of the same war file.
-. I looked for the application to first undeploy it in the JMX console (http://localhost:8080/web-console/) but failed to find the application.
-. I then override the war file under the 'deploy' folder and restart JBoss server.
-. I got an error:
ERROR [org.jboss.kernel.plugins.dependency.AbstractKernelController] (main) Error installing to Configured: name=jboss.j2ee:module="RCM.war",service=EjbModule state=Instantiated mode=Manual requiredState=Configured
java.lang.RuntimeException: Exception setting attribute WebServiceName on mbean jboss.j2ee:service=EjbModule,module="RCM.war"
...
Caused by: javax.management.InvalidAttributeValueException: Set attribute has class class javax.management.ObjectName loaded from null that is not assignable to attribute class class javax.management.ObjectName loaded from BaseClassLoader@12a3e06{vfszip:/C:/jboss-5.1.0.GA/server/default/deploy/RCM.war/}

-. when I rename the .war name in the 'deploy' folder and restart JBoss server again I stopped getting this error

my question: how can I redeploy .war fileto JBoss without the need to deploy it every time with a different name?

You don't have to give a different name to the war every time you redeploy it. The real cause of the exception is probably something else (i don't know why you stopped seeing that exception after renaming the war). See these wiki for redeployment related information:

http://www.jboss.org/community/wiki/ExplodedDeployment

http://www.jboss.org/community/wiki/RedeployAnApplicationWhenChangeAFileInAnExplodedDeploymentDirectory

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
