I just recently made the move to the Eclipse 3.5 IDE. Periodically, it just seems to go off into never-never land. I see a message indicating it is
Computing additional info
in the bottom right of the IDE and the CPU usage pegs out at 99 percent. In the meantime, the UI is unresponsive - I cannot even type anything into an editor. This is incredibly annoying. I do not remember any problems like this in Eclipse 3.4. I have turned off all validators in an attempt to minimize the problem. This seemed to lessen the number of times the problem appears but it still does appear periodically. Is this a known problem? If so, is there anything that can be done to prevent it?

Hey Jay, did you find any solution to this problem?
I am also facing similar problem and I have found one workaround though its tedious. What I found is that it tries to connect to internet to get/send some info and for me it keeps popping up the proxy input credential box. I went to "Progress" window and canceled all the jobs with the title "Computing additional info" and eventually the problem gets resolved for some time. I don't know the frequency though but it gets repeated after few minutes.

No. After googling for help, I learned the same thing you did - that it was connecting to the internet. For whatever reason, the problem seems confined to my desktop PC only. My notebook does not seem to experience the problem. With your information, I may look at this issue some more. If I learn anything new, I will post what I find. I hope you will do the same.

I've encountered the same problem. It appears it has not been resolved yet. Post below sounds like the same problem we are all having:
