This week's book giveaway is in the OCAJP 8 forum. We're giving away four copies of OCA Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide and have Edward Finegan & Robert Liguori on-line! See this thread for details.
Pity, I was just getting my first Mars-Lander version of Java-5 (times) ready. Ok I'll hold off until you post the all clear. Have a good gettaway, Marilyn. -Barry [ December 30, 2002: Message edited by: Barry Gaunt ]
Mars-Lander? That's it, Barry, hold off. Maybe then I'll be able to slip in my first submission of JDBC-2 ahead of you in the queue. Marilyn -- take a break! Get things fixed. Broken 'puter is no fun. I'm posting from "work" today, so Barry's monologue has been a bright spot.
Marilyn - What a bummer, I hope they can get it working so that you don't have to reload from backups on to a new PC. And have to buy a new one. It may be another week before I try another submittal of OOP-4. I thought I had a lasso around OOP. But, much to my suprise it slipped out of the lasso. Have a Great New Years!!
Marilyn, I know you hate discussing troubles with your PC. But I can't help (can't stop helpi...) My experience is that in the shop they will put your PC on the shelf even if you tell them exactly what is the problem and what you expect to substitute. That's incredible, even if you need if the boot button works, they describe the problem on 3 pages in 4 copies and, well, to the shelf.
And do you know what I have heard at the end of 6 weeks of waiting when I was taking away my PC without any further repairing: "Why Senhor (they called me so) had not told that he had System Commander installed?" So, they even did not try to boot it, even once! In another shop after 3 weeks of waiting, I was proposed to buy a new PC because Pentium 2 PRO (266 MHz9 is discontinued and no substitutables are produced any more. I asked PC with DDR(type of RAM) and Athlon (well, just to show that I do not want o buy all the most expensive) ... and waited 5 weeks more! It is always good to have more than one PC! You always may compare how something is connected. And if Power Block would have exploded, you don't have to wait the end of Xmas, it is already there in the old PC, and usually they are pretty substitutable! NB (to the people accusing me that I don't discuss here any Java): I am sure that you are trying to fix PC with Java in it and Java doesn't start without PC! If it is not so, please disregard all my post. Well, I also cannot find anything (about Java) without your links/guidance. I am rather desperate... Then I hope you will not encounter any shelves in your shopping. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks, Guennadii, I think some of the delay may be to the holidays (decreased staffing). At least I hope things will be resolved more rapidly after the holidays. Not having my own computer is a real pain.
