We have initiated an open source project to help us in our mission. Loosely defined, it’s a training holodeck to help prepare people for peace missions. It will allow them to make their mistakes in a safe environment. Right now it doesn’t look much like a holodeck, it looks like a web application that allows anyone to create online training simulations. But this is a long-term project. (Consider this your chance to get in at the ground level of the building of a Cathedral. We won't be done for at least 200 years!)
Our community site is at http://docs.opensimplatform.org. From there one should be able to easily get to our codebase, issue tracker and mailing lists. We are using the tool internally here at the USIP to deliver some of our simulation content, and several other large organizations are interested in using it. But we do have a long way to go. There are lots of interesting challenges ahead of us integrating state-of-the-art open source tools into our simulation universe.
But we are not picky. Anyone who believes that we can collectively use our skills to help end the scourge of war is welcome!
And, of course, there will be no money. (But on your death-bed you may receive total consciousness.) The project will provide lots of opportunities for learning, sharing, mentoring and/or being mentored. Working with us is a hoot :-)
Please contact me if you are interested.

Please let us know more about yourselves. Our developer's news list is probably a good place for this.
Could you tell me a bit more about yourself? I'm curious as to what interested you in the OSP and which aspects of the project are you most interested in?
If there is anything I can do to help you get started or anything at all, please just let me know.
We are making the world a better place :-)

Our site was down for a bit today, so I hope you didn't try checking us out this morning. We have an great hosting company, http://mmaweb.net, but a router failure at their service provider failed them. They are now looking into how to prevent that from happening again.
As mentioned in this JavaRanch posting above, there are a couple of different mailing lists you can now join (http://demo.opensimplatform.org/docs/index.php/Mailing_Lists). I look forward to seeing you on one of them. And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me directly.
Thank you Skip. I was wondering why I was not able to access the links you provided. I was checking my firewall configuration I will check the links again.
This has been great. We have gotten several new contributors too our project.
But we can always use more :-)
BTW, right now I'm writing the portion of the application that handles 'in game' email. I JUST know that someone most have written something like this about a million times in the past. If you have a good open source jsp email client we could integrate, please let me know.
Hi Skip,
I have worked mostly in C# .net3.5 for 2 years but right now want to move to java.
I worked with java only for 6 months.
I have cleared SCJP6 & SCWCD 5. Let me know if I can join. Thanks,
I have a clear concept on OOP and Java 5 programming. But professionally, i can not accomplish any j2ee project. But i am very much interested to work on your project for verious purposes.
1] If your project executes the theme, "Against the War", this concept/theme is very much welcomed by me and i want took a place on this project because of i am also "Against the War".
2]I need to develop my java skills on a professional quality. Also want to work with a good and energetic team.
3] Want to create my own community where I can share my opinion and experience and the most important part is i want to share these things who have the same mentallity as me. Surely, I will found some people on this project who thinks as me.
I can ensure you that, my main focus will be on the project and I will always try my level best to accomplish the task that you will give to me.
Please consider these issues and give me a chance to work on your project. For further information, you can contact with me through, it.codeperl@gmail.com
