How is Java job market?

i am j2ee software engineer with 7+ years of experience. i lost my job due to recession. i had casual approach in job hunt. Now it is more than 6 months. i am not even getting interview calls because of this gap. i don't know if i am not getting calls because of recession or because i do not have current job.
Can someone tell me how is java market in india/US/Europe?
will it create bad impression if i join small company after working in big reputed company?

It's pretty bad world-wide and 7 months isn't all that unusual, which is thy the US Congress keeps extending long-term unemployment benefits. And, if it's any consolation, back in 2001, I went for over 2 years without a regular paycheck, although I did manage to maintain credibility by working a short-term contract project during part of that time. I just read this morning that InfoSys had a really bad year.

I don't think changing company sizes - especially downwards - is going to hurt all that much. However, you will find that in smaller companies, you'll have to do a lot of things that someone else would be doing in a bigger company. On the other hand, you'll probably have more opportunities to work in new areas. Except for maybe the politics, I figure it all comes out about even.

From what I hear, it is starting to pick up. But the "market" is a generalization and it is difficult to say if it is picking up or going down without hearing about figures of employment / unemployment. I see more ads for vacant positions so that must be a good sign.
