compiler shows it doesnt understand byteValue() and Byte(String) constructor

Yeah nothing wrong, compiles and runs fine for me.

Means have you created your own Byte class and then used it.... Well what error are you getting???

something wrong with my compiler.

class D
{
public static void main(String arg[])
{
Byte b=new Byte((byte)1);
}
}

even this shows error that Byte(byte) constructor: cannot find symbol type eroor

It means that you have another Byte class somewhere... which leads back to an earlier question, did you implement your own Byte class?

Take a directory listing, and see if you have a Byte.class file in the listing.
