Hi Satish,

Congratulations on your new book

Integrating Flex with the Java Server side components is perhaps the most sought after topic in Flex space.
I guess its mainly because of the wide spread usage of Java in enterprise world and ofcourse the Rich UI you can create using Flex.

What type of Server side Java components are you targetting in this book?
Do you cover WebServices, Servlets, EJBs and POJO?

Following is the one of the commonly asked question that I would like to answer in here,

Q. Does this book help beginners to learn Adobe Flex 3 basics?

A. Yes, very much. This book is targeted to the developers who want to get started with Adobe Flex 3 programming. If you read table of content you would see that I have covered all important aspects of Flex and ActionScript starting from basics to advanced. Have a look at the http://www.packtpub.com/flex-3-with-java/book and http://www.amazon.com/Flex-3-Java-Satish-Kore/dp/1847195342#reader_1847195342 for detailed information.

Thanks,

Hi Satish,
Congratulations on your new book.
I am new to Flex and have been trying to get Flex to connect to our Webservice application. But apparently it works with Axis2 and we have Axis 1.4. Any idea if there is a compatibility with Axis 1.4 or is there any workarounds?

Hi Mikey,

Answer to your question is "Yes", this book will give you everything that you need to start programming in Flex 3. However if you need integration with Java then some basic knowledge of Java is expected.

All the best for your Flex learning.

Thanks,

Hi Satish;

I was wondering if you could look forward a little and give me an idea of what will be changing in Flex 4. I am real new to flex, I just finished an Adobe course on flex, and noticed that there was no support for smaller lcd screens, like on a cell phone. I know that JavaFX has the ability to port gui built for the web to a smaller phone lcd , and I did not see that support in Flex 3. Also, I noticed in your book that you discuss BlazeDS, I have been building restFUL interfaces as was wondering how well BlazeDS integrates with JERSEY. Flex is really a cool and I hope to start implementing it soon.

Your book looks great.

Thank you

Hi Barry Raczkowski,
There are few major changes between Flex 3 and 4 such as Skinning, Namespace, Component architecture etc. to know more about it visit http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex4sdk_whatsnew.html and http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex3and4_differences.html.

Adobe is working on light weight Flex framework for Mobile devices that can be used for developing mobile applications but this project is in initial stage and expected to be available in 2010. Have a look http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flex/mobile/

Thanks,

It looks like the smaller device version of flex will have to be developed as a seperate project. Will the code be interchangable like Adobe AIR and Adobe Flex is.

Will this book provide enough information for those who want to get certified in flex?
