exception handling best practices in struts

Can somebody give me pointers (or point me) to how to do exception handling in struts. what is a good practise to follow.
For example let's say I have a simple web application, with 2 JSPs (personaldata.jsp, and viewdata.jsp), an action class CreatePersonalInfo, a business object for validating the information, and finally a data access object that handles the database transaction. In this case what kind of exception should be thrown by the DAO, or the BO, etc.
I am looking for some good guidelines to follow. I started of thinking that I had a good idea of how to do this, but i seem to be creating some spaghetti code.
Appreciate your help.
Thank you
