Flex 3 with Java - Simple, secure Linux server as backend for Flex or Laszlo application

I am creating a Flex (or perhaps Laszlo) application to monitor a network device. The network device runs Linux (Ubuntu server image) and the value add in the network device is implemented as a C callable library. What packages should I add to the Linux image to produce a simple, yet secure server that can be managed by a Flex application. Do Flex and Laszlo based applications support the same options for server side deployment? Will one choice at the service side better support a different choice in the application technology?

Options I know of so far:
- Apache
- Jboss
- Jetty
- other?

Any thoughts on strengths or weaknesses of different options is appreciated.

Any thoughts on the benefits of Flex over Laszlo or vice-versa is also appreciated.

Thanks!
