jqgrid with autonumber

I've been trying to setup jqgrid with an autonumber in the add form feature. I can't seem to do it without having to refresh the page.
The table does a json request to the json server that I setup but I can't figure out to make it receive the autonumber and place it in the add form.
Hope this makes sense.
