Hi All,
While it does not intend to be solely an example to teach struts Dave Johnson wrote roller as the example for an article that he wrote (don't know the URL sorry). It is big but address many of the issues that a BBS would have to address (security, scaleability, etc.)
The app is filled with 'best practices' so it might be a good place to start.
