Background application in J2ME

I want to create an application that runs in the background. I would like to be able to leave the application, if I need to make a call or text someone, and resume the application where I left it. Could someone tell me if in J2ME this is possible, and if possible how to do it? I have read about background processing, and this works well whilst the application is running, but on exiting the application due wanting to make a phone call I would like the application to resume after finishing the call. I look forward to your response, regards, Martin
