Hello ranchers,

Unfortunately I missed to see the PM and missed my copy for the book listed at : https://coderanch.com/t/466932/Other-Open-Source-Projects/Winners-Pentaho-Reporting-Java-Developers

I already had got 2 books but by then we used to get an email. Due to the absence with JR for some time in the middle I guess I missed to be at par with the new/changed rules if any. Sorry for the same.

Is there a way to get the book? Would be great if I can get it.

Thanks.

Moreover, I dint receive a PM as well. Very sad thing! How come?

If so I would have got an email for the PM. Hence, I was unaware of it.

The rules doesn't require that an email (or PM) be sent -- only the winners announcement topic. We do send out PMs though.

Thanks Henry. I got to know the same in the URL.

However, I did NOT get any PM for the same!

Unfortunately, it looks like the winners list for that promotion has already been submitted to the publisher. And was submitted more than a week ago.

Sorry,
Henry

Thanks for the reply Henry.

Honestly, I have NOT received any PMs for this. I have enabled an email notification for PMs FYI. But I did NOT get any notifications so far for this book.

You can check my PM list as well (if being a Moderator, I guess you should be able to do so).

Till now Java Ranch has not met such cases?

As the person who ran that week's promo, I am able to check my sent PMs list. You are correct that PMs did not go out that week. As Henry noted, we don't promise to send out a PM if you win. We usually do, but any e-mails or PMs that have gone out are a courtesy.

Thanks Jeanne! I guess that book is NOT for me .

"Better luck next time/book" !

I do completely agree that all of us here are doing out of our will and volunteering basis and it was equally my responsibility as well to have come back and checked the site for the winner's list! Yet another opportunity to take a corrective action

Thanks Henry, Jeanne and Ankit Garg (who has been replying via PMs) for your clarifications.

As a side discussion, since this topic has already been concluded...

There are a couple of members here, who knows enough about the Database, and / or the source, to be able to read PMs.... but... they should not. And for the rest of the moderators, we don't have access to user's PMs. PMs are private. Personally, it would feel like violating a trust to read them.

Yes of course. I don't deny that as this serves the basic character of the moderator with decency! But here I just thought of approving this action for a valid cause!
