Problems Extending HtmlCommandLink

Hi All - I am facing issues when i try to customize HtmlCommandLink.I do not want to create a new component. I just need to add an extra attribute to the existing commandlink.Suggest me any links where I can get some info about customizing my component. Or please guide me how to do that. Thanks in advance..

You cannot just extend a UIComponent and add attributes to it, how will you get/set values to this attribute?
For that, you need to extend the UIComponentELTag as well.

I would suggest that before creating custom components, first evaluate all your options.
If you have strong reasons for creating a custom component, then you are better of creating a new component from scratch
