Spring MVC with Acegi Security

I was trying to find but couldnt go further on how it is possible to start the Acegi authentication procedure from within Spring mvc controller .

I'm trying to use filter chain that Acegi uses .. call httpSessionContextIntegrationFilter.doFilter(req, resp, chain) etc,

How should this be best approached, in a way that authentication is handled by spring mvc controller ?

I tried successfully without controllers and Im using a combination of Glassfish,MySQL and Spring MVC.

Any example/sample application helps a lot.
