Paul announced in MO that he has the XML assignments ready for nitpicking and will release them today. You can read about this here.

Wow, nice endless loop with the link Matt!
Guess this means some of us should get off our duff and get our last JDBC assignment done... *mutters*

It's not an endless loop. It's recursive.

I thought recursion was to use similar code but still produce a different output each iteration, where as many of the endless loops I encounter simply continue to iterate without adding anything each iteration...

I didn't say it was good recursion. It does add something new each time. It opens a new window with information on the XML assignments.

Jason pointed out that the link above is incorrect. The correct link is here.

I would argue that it's not recursion because there's no base case that causes the stack to unwind.
(I think I've argued that once before, but I'm too lazy to search.)
Speaking of loops, Jason, I think you're out of it. So to speak.

In my browser both links come back to this page? Is it because the link is within the moderators only forum and as a ranch hand I'm not allowed to see the link/thread? In which case, thanks for the tease... I'll have to wait for them to come out in the public area somewhere.

If you keep clicking eventually you will run out of system resources and it will unwind... in a way.

You are under the impression that I am witty enough to come up with a good dead-pan. Silly little M&M. Though your play on words is rather clever
No, sadly enough, my original posts were honest. I have since seen the light!

Thanks for the help, Thomas! That's exactly where I was going wrong.

The links seem to be going where I pointed them for me. Maybe you should refresh your browser.

All of the links point back to (http://www.coderanch.com/t/4717/Cattle-Drive/XML-assignments-released). Which is this thread on my computer.

Maybe you should refresh your browser.
Deleting any cached version of JavaRanch pages may help make things clear too.

John, after that, check out the title of the first XML assignment, which you can also get to by reading my recent submission to the assignment log thread.

I've already noticed your posting in the assignment log and wasn't doubting that the assignments were real. I was just trying to see what type of assignments were mentioned.
As for refreshing my browser, I've done that to no avail. Would any of you have a test ranchhand equivalent account that you can view this thread thru my world and see if it's a permission problem. I've tried accessing a thread in the MO forum by changing the "f" and "t" variables in the url to something that would match the MO forum and it doesn't display the thread, so I'm thinking that this forum software knows I shouldn't have a link to a protected forum and is substituting the same thread as the link.

Deleting cached pages may not be enough. It may be necessary to uninstall your current browser and then re-install it. Or better yet, install Mozilla or Opera instead if you haven't already. (Heck, we might as well accomplish something useful while we're at it.) Good luck.

I'll try it tomorrow (April 2nd) and let you know the results.

Wiping my hard drive and installing Linux with Mozilla browser, will let you know results after that. Thanks for your help...

RedHat is offering an early release of version 9 if you sign up for their RedHat Subscription service. Sounds like a good excuse to get it.

Actually, the assignments can only be done on Windows because of a Java compatibility issue.

I think at this point the only hope is to smash your computer, burn the rmains, and the scatter the dust into the ocean from an airplane. At that point you can try re-installing your browser software. If you have trouble, you may have to send Bill Gates the contents of all your bank accounts and then try again.

I've been using Windows 3.0 on my mother-in-law's Tandy 1000 that she bought brand new for $1000, way back in the day. It's worked so far for the other assignments, it's just been a little slow.

Do you know if I can put redhat 9 on this?
