hi!
how can we compare Cameron McKenzie study guide for SCJA with SCJA Sun Certified Java Associate Study Guide (Exam CX-310-019) , by McGraw-Hill?

i know that Cameron McKenzie study guide for SCJA is really too good. but i cannot bye this book now due to some own problems and study guide for SCJA with SCJA Sun Certified Java Associate Study Guide (Certification Press) book is free {ELECTRONIC VERSION} to download on some sites.

this is why i am asking for!

please give your suggestion also for "Head First Java, 2nd Edition by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates" in case of SCJA preparation!

Always make sure that when you're downloading a book, that you have the appropriate rights. But if you have access to it through one of your book subscription services, well, go for it.

My SCJA Guides have been very effective at helping students get certified, so if you can get your hands on one, you'll find it to be your best path to quick certification. Of course, I'm biased.

Head First (HF) is great for learning Java, and you need to know Java for the exam. HF goes beyond the basics, so you learn more than you need for the SCJA exam, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I recommend all of my students who are looking to go into the Java field get the HF book, regardless of whether they are SCJA focussed or not.

I haven't invested in Camerons book yet but I can comment on the other two

HF Java is brilliant, definately a good starting point. it explains the basics very well and is quite light heated about it. This means it is easy to read and not a chore, £25 well spent.

the McGrawhill book is also good, but maybe a bit heavier to read in comparison to HF java. Still a good investment as it covers everything you need for the exam.

I would say : get HF java and read that through for a good introduction. Then read McGrawhill to understand what you need for the exam, then if you still need more prep go for Camerons book

Have fun ;)

Just another newbie ;)

I can say with certainty that you can pass the SCJA using soley Cameron's guide. That's how I did it. Having HF Java is definately worthwhile, but his study guide is definately worth every cent.

I'd say get HF Java and then read Cameron McKenzie's book, and pick up the McGraw-Hill book if you need more prep. But of course, I'm biased.

Good luck!
