I completed part 3 about five weeks ago, but it doesn't show the result yet in https://www.certmanager.net/sun_assignment.

How long did it take for your results to be displayed? Am I looking at the right place?

Did you mail Sun support? Probably you passed already.. but there is a technical glitch that is preventing it from being displayed on Sun Cert watcher?

FAQ page in Sun Cert Manager reads..

Your exam results will show up in the Certification database within 4 weeks after taking the essay at Prometric

I am in the 5th week after taking Part 3 and Part2.
But Reps from Sun and Prometric say it is normal that candidates wait upto 4 to "6" weeks..

Gosh.. this wait is ..

Hi all fellow grade waiters!

I got my result today after waiting 6 weeks.
My grade is P but the score is set to 0 in the certmanager. As I understand it is a known problem for many. Looks like the certification database is not updated yet as well. But I guess it will get updated soon.
Until then I assume it means I passed ... ?

Congrats!..
You may want to confirm by sending a mail to who2contact and probably a request to initiate processing your certification package by confirming your name and address.
I noticed that some of us have received the result in 3 weeks.. I was hoping I'll get the results within the 4th week.

I am in my 5th week and I have my fingers crossed.
Certmanager is my home page now as I check for the result almost daily!..

Congrats Raymond !...

I too got my results today after waiting for 38 days. My Grade is P with 0 score in certmanager.
I'll wait for the certification database to be updated and I assume I passed.

Any idea how long will it take for cert manager to publish the marks?
and how long will it take for SUN to mail us the Certificate?

Please be aware that I'm still adding bits and pieces to this project when I get the time.

If you are using it I'd highly recommend subscribing to the project feed as you'll get notifications of any changes to the source code. For example, I recently fixed a significant bug and added email notification functionality.

Jonathan, Thanks for writing and sharing a useful tool!

Few suggestions -
* Please mention the list of libraries needed to run it. I had to do the following hacks to get the tool working:
1. Had to delete EmailNotificationListener.java and comment its calling code because I did not have the jar file for the javax.mail.* imports.
2. Had to comment all GenericValidator related code for the same reason
(I know this was plain laziness on my part )

* Please try to build support for internet proxies. I can't run the tool at work because we don't have direct internet access there, and have to go through a proxy server. I tried to incorporate proxy support into your code, but have hit a dead-end since the HttpsURLConnection class has been used, and I am not sure if it has proxy support. I've also referred this link https://coderanch.com/t/206897/Sockets-Internet-Protocols/java/HttpsURLConnection-Proxy-auth, but the https://cis.med.ucalgary.ca/http/forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=188930&tstart=45 link is giving a 404.

Prasanna,

Thanks for the feedback - it's always appreciated.

Although I've now checked in the changes you asked for (the latest version includes optional proxy.host and proxy.port configuration properties). I haven't had the time to set up a proxy on my machine for testing purposes.

Please give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Jonathan

OK, I set up squid on my local fedora machine and added the appropriate proxy.host and port.port config properties.

Everything appears to be working fine.

Congrats !!!

Can anyone guide me in deciding if I should wait for new edition or should start work with first edition copy of Mark Cade book ?

I want to start the work at earlist but do not want to put efforts in something that will change by Feb 10.

Have you taken a look at the rough cuts of his latest edition? If not, please search this forum for its link.

The point is, you can safely refer to the chapters from the earlier edition which are common for both versions of the exam, as they don't seem to have changed much in the new edition (this is based on my review of the rough cuts).

Sorry to say that when I tried to register at https://sourceforge.net/account/registration/, the page simply did not load; so, have to comment here.

I tried the latest version at my workplace, but without success. Here is the stack trace I got -

When I was initially developing the app I tried using HttpClient 4.0.x but couldn't get it working. For that reason I resorted to using HttpsURLConnnection. However,
as you're probably aware from the list of required JARs in Readme.txt, I've now resorted to using HttpClient 3.1 to enable support for proxies.

I think the best way to proceed with your problem is to renew efforts at getting HttpClient 4.0.x working. That'll require a bit of detective work and no doubt some posts to the HttpClient forum, so it may be while before things are working for you. Of course, the other big problem is replicating your problem in my environment as I only run Linux and don't, therefore, have a network using NTLM.

Have you shown the stack trace to your Network Admin / IT people at work? Their input would no doubt be helpful in better understanding the problem.

Regards,

Jonathan

Do Sun actually post a score for part 2? The marking section of my instructions contains the following:

Below are the sections of the assignment and points available per section. Minimum score to pass the exam is 114. We will only post a pass or fail.

The Marking Section has the following

"The marking for this assignment is described below. You will receive a single score for parts 2 and 3 of the exam."

and in the next paragraph, the following is also present

"Minimum score to pass the exam is 114. We will only post a pass or fail"

So, which is correct? The Marking Section is as confusing as the assignment itself.

OK, I see what you're getting at.

I would take the statement "You will receive a single score for parts 2 and 3 of the exam" as meaning "parts II and III are marked together". The product of that single marking process is your final score, The minimum combined score is 114.

Unfortunately, it looks like Sun don't then tell you what your actual mark is. They simply tell you whether you passed or failed. In my opinion this is a real let down. After all, the whole process should be about becoming a better architect. Not simply whether you passed of failed. The absence of full and proper feedback, i.e. your actual marks broken down by section, means many of the real benefits of this certification are lost.

If they can provide marks, broken down by section, to SCJD, why not for SCEA?

Thanks for clarification.

I agree with you that Sun should actually give us the points scored, broken down by section. Now, I'm not sure in which section I'm strong and in which I need to improve.

Lucky you!
For me 7 weeks passed since Part 3 completed but I still don't have any result published nor here
https://www.certmanager.net/sun_assignment
neither here
https://www.certmanager.net/sun

I send a letter to who2contact@sun.com and SunCert@Prometric.com.
probably I should have sent it to Santa as well, but I think it's too later for this year (maybe next?).

Any ideas who else I can contact to ?

I wonder what's happened in the last 18 months? Back in June of 2008 - it was only taking 2 weeks (see page 12), or so we were led to believe.

Any ideas who else I can contact to ?

You'll probably get more joy from Santa, but have you tried contacting Sun Educational Services for your country/region? At least that way you get to speak to a real human being as opposed to just firing emails into the ether.

Well, I'm sorry to say that doesn't surprise me. The administration of these certifications just seems to get worse and worse. How it can be acceptable to make people wait two months for results is beyond me.

Sun not providing the actual marks is a dampener...
Because, at least half of the people attempting the exam propably know that they can pass for sure...the actual marks that one scores can give an idea of where we stand vis-a-vis other examinees/architects...

I finally received my results after 8 weeks and a lot of hassle.

The correspondence I've received from Sun over the pass few days suggests there are still serious problems with Prometric, If you've been waiting for a long time I'd strongly advise you to contact Sun and keep on at them till something happens.

Apparently, Prometric was not registering me as having completed all three parts (how this happens when you have a unique candidate ID I'll never know, but it seems to be a recurring problem for some candidates). In fact, I had to resend my assignment directly to Sun (make sure you keep a secure backup of your assignment in case this happens to you).

Troubles aside, at least I can relax now I've passed.

Thanks again to all the people who contributed to the discussions on this forum over the pass few months.

Regards,

Jonathan
