This week's book giveaway is in the Agile and other Processes forum. We're giving away four copies of The Mikado Method and have Ola Ellnestam and Daniel Brolund on-line! See this thread for details.
Hi, I have a small problemw hen emailing my assignments over for nitpicking. Marilyn keeps telling me I have too many blank lines in my solution but these lines aren't actually there so I think it must be all going wrong when I email it. I am using exite and there is only the choice of plain text or html so I am using plain text. Anyone know how I can get this to stop happening? thanks Amy

Hi Amy. What editor are you using to create your programs? Can you change the line ending setting? Does this problem happen when you paste any file (from notepad, say) into the mail program? What happens when you send a file to yourself? Is this Excite mailer a freely obtainable one? If yes, perhaps I can play around with it a bit. Just wild guesses, sorry.
Do you have an option to "strip trailing spaces on save" or something similar. I'm wondering if the lines you're pasting have too many spaces/tabs at the end and are wrapping.

I am using Notpad to create my programs so available options are limited. I have been playing around with my emails though and it seems to be excite causing me the problems. It is free at the moment but also going downhill so it might be a good idea for me to get out now. I will try sending my assignments off my yahoo account and hopefully the problem might vanish...if not I will be back here! Thanks for your help

Hi Amy, try first sending the Yahoo mail to yourself as a check, it will save some waiting around until M takes a look at it. Save the received mail and check it with an editor. Are you really using Notepad? - you could try JEdit or BlueJ (both are free and good). I have just got hold of TextPad - it's also good but it costs a few quid (and I am still waiting for my licence to arrive). -B

Hi barry, I have sent myself a few test emails to various accounts (outlook, excite and yahoo) and things are looking good so i have my fingers crossed. I am looking into those editing tools though, I really think I might need to upgrade from notepad so thanks for the tip Amy

I've been using JCreator LE, It's free, It's nice and quick loading. It also has the trim trailing spaces feature and you can control the indent size and type (spaces or tabs). It also has a whitespace view that will display your indentation whether you're using spaces or tabs. JCreator

I didn't have problems sending assignments from my Yahoo account. As far as editors go, I like Ultraedit. It's not free, but the cost is pretty low.

JCreator LE is a good one, used it for about 2 years. I've since converted to TextPad, but haven't been a good boy like Barry and sent in for the license, I just keep ignoring the little message.
