I am in search of project management certifications which don't expect one to have already served as a project manager. I see PMP but it asks for prior project management experience. I have been a team lead but don't have project management experience. Are there any known certifications that meet my needs ?

Use Head First PMP. Even I'm targeting it later next year though I do not have any project management experience.

You need experience to get certified. I'm not sure if you can take the test and get the experience later. It probably says it in the rules PDF.
