Guys,

Sometimes my phone never reacts and to me it looks like in some areas, Android lets me down. My phone completely becomes useless. Did anyone else also face similiar problems?

Do you know how to upgrade to Android 2.0?

Looks like there isn't anything official from Samsung that a firmware upgrade is right now available. If this would be the situation, then I would better advice others willing to buy an Android phone better stay away from Samsung.

I've heard that there is already an Update available for HTC Hero. If that up chin on the HTC Hero was not there, man I would have definitely bought that.

Yes, you will get an OTA update from Samsung/Service provider as and when it becomes available. Could your problem be device specific? Do you know any other "Galaxy owners" who faced the same issues? Did you make your issues known to Samsung?

A firmware update is due on HTC Hero, I haven't got it still (there were some issues with Sense UI that they wanted resolved first before sending out updates, I think); my handset still runs v1.5. I have no problems with Hero having a chin as long as the device works fine.

Finally I figured out how to make a firmware upgrade on my Samsung Galaxy. For those who might want to know I'm putting that down here...

(1) Install the Samsung New PC Studio and then install the Samsung_USB_Driver_Installer on your computer. These two files will be in the CD that accompanied your Galaxy phone when you purchased.
(2) Next on the phone, under Settings >> About Phone >> Additional Settings >> Uncueck the Mass storage only option.
(3) Now start the Samsung New PC Studio app on your computer.
(4) Connect your phone with the USB cable that you got along with your phone
(5) Click the settings icon and click on the updates tab and then the rest is self explanatory.

Last I heard, an update was in the works for the Hero, but not yet available. The Hero is a good phone, though. Maybe could have better battery life, but decent overall.

What was "If that up chin on the HTC Hero was not there" supposed to mean?

Customer surveys are for companies who didn't pay proper attention to begin with.

I think he means the chin of the phone (slanting protrusion at the base of the handset):

It makes me think of a Land Line telephone.

That was probably the idea, actually. The Sprint USA version of the Hero doesn't have it. I'd forgotten about it, in fact, until I ran across a picture from about a year ago.

Incidentally, speaking of rumours, I recently heard that the Hero may skip over Android 2.0 and go straight to Android 2.1.

Yes, even I had read something similar; it seems they were having some trouble updating Sense UI for newer versions of Android(>1.5) so perhaps, they are directly updating it for a future release.
