From 2002 I am working in Java, But 5 and 1/2 years in that is Lecturer. But I am strong in Java. Companies/and also myself get confused whether to consider me for programming level (2 or 3 yrs experience category) or consider for Architect/manager level (with my total experience). I did not do any Project Manager Certifications and like due to its cost. In all companies i clear tech. rounds but the problems are with the Next level HR people. where and in what designation, category to keep me? with this confusion simply they reject me.
Tech. panel in interviews explicitly said, "technically sound, knowledge, communication, way of explaining projects, concepts, technologies are much comparable to a senior person, so don't apply for 2, 3 experience category"
what should i do further. Interested to explore much with newer technologies, experts and domains. Awaiting a chance to prove myself with proper recognition.

When you work on projects, you get different experience, not just knowledge of technologies. Like if you are team leader or project leader, you have to handle client, your team, you manager, QA people, coordinate with an architect or technical leader etc. This comes under peoples management skills which you may not get much exposure in a job of lecturer. Second knowledge of technologies or dummy projects is different than when you actually use them in projects. You face many problems in real projects like performance, design skills, user requirement. Clearing interview is different than working on projects. My suggestion is you find a job where you do coding as well, may not be as a 2-3 experience software engineer, but Module Lead, Team Lead kind of role.
There is no level for programming, you will find very senior core technical people do coding and they enjoy it, they are architects who do design as well, but do not want to loose touch with coding.
If you directly want to jump into project management, not sure but I know one DBA became project manager.
If you get selected in technical round and if HR people find difficulty about your designation or level, they should have thought about it much before while shortlisting your resume. But if you face such situation next time, my suggestion is you can suggest from your side where you feel comfort and confidence.
