operator precedence table

do we have to memorize the table except knowing the (* /% )comes before (+-)

and everything right to = is evaluated first

You don't have to memorize the precedence table. The questions in SCJP don't try to confuse you too much about operator precedence. Just basic understanding of operator precedence is enough (as much as is covered in K&B). SCJP 1.4 used to have confusing questions about operator precedence but Sun changed that after SCJP 5...
