Serialize objects in Hibernate

what is the need of serializing in hibernate for eg.

public class Myuser implements Serializable{

}

are they really serialized ie converted to bytestream or how does it works wrt hibernate.

So they can be used in distributed environments and with cache implementations that may serialise them to disk.

Thanks a lot how ever i am interested to know as to are they really converted to byte stream according serializable concept.

Hibernate does not do this.
 
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
