How softwares download web videos?

Hi ranchers,

I'm curious how some softwares are able to download online videos from web sites like you tube etc.
I want to make my own in java but I have no idea how to do it.

any advice?

Sites like YouTube use streaming media, usually implemented in Flash. Java has an API for streaming media in the Java Multimedia Framework.
