New to game development

Hi everyone, I am new to game development, nothing know about gaming, but in interested game programming. And just completed SCJP exam, can anyone tell me from where i should start? What material i have to read???

alot depends on preference but here's a list of things you should do first

1 play a lot of different games
2 get a feel for how they work and what type you want to make
3 write down the rules , you'll need to know these to make it
4 start coding with the simple parts and any way you know how

its not a matter of making a game , its more to figuring out
the process the game takes to play , and making that

example : tetris

1) you have a 2d array or booleans
all are set to false by default
2) then you have a block move down
to the bottom of the 2d array ,
3) once it hits the spot above the
bottom or above another block
4) set all the area of that block to
true
5) check to see if an entire row is true
if it is , delete it and shift everything
down 1 and add to score
6) check to see if the new block is
above the boundary causing a game over
7) repeat from 1

thats just tetris , but any game can be analyzed down
to where it can be easily put together .
